INVISIBLE RESIDENCE

This project investigates the abandoned Solvay Sports Center at Avenue du Pérou 80, combining site research, historical analysis, and personal narrative. The work explores the building’s layered interiors, surrounding vegetation, and signs of past and present occupation, from graffiti and decaying materials to hidden tents and makeshift constructions. The site embodies both architectural legacy and social marginality, reflecting the impact of Belgian industrial dynasties, municipal development, and urban management.

The project is materialised as a scale model of the site, representing its structure, garden, and traces of human presence using a collection of pictures taken on site throughout the years. Through this model, viewers can engage with the site’s multi-layered history and ongoing life, while the project as a whole examines themes of abandonment, invisibility, and resilience, showing how memory, marginality, and time shape the perception and use of urban space.
